On Oct. 21, the Essex County Estate Planning Council held its first very successful Lunch & Learn event at McLane Middleton, PA in Woburn. Approximately 30 Council members and their guests attended this first-of-its-kind event, hosted by the law firm.
McLane Middleton’s Ryan Swartz, Esq., director of the firm’s Trusts & Estates Department, gave an informative presentation, “Lifetime Gifting to Reduce Massachusetts Estate Tax,” which covered federal estate tax, Massachusetts state tax and the interplay between the Federal Gift Tax and the Massachusetts Estate Tax.
Attorney Swartz also discussed calculating Massachusetts Estate Tax and gave examples of utilizing lifetime gifting, as well as relevant examples of situations where the rules covered were evaluated. Several questions were brought up by the audience, and there was plenty of valuable networking time before and after the presentation.
Please check the ECEPC website for information on additional lunch & learn events coming up around the North Shore.
